The best romance novels we’ve seen so far this year (it’s still very early, of course) have been a couple of titles by new author Aminka Ozmun, who hopes to stake new ground by providing stories that feature black women-Asian men relationships (BWAM). Chapter 146 was able to take a look at advance copies and here’s what we found:
Kickin’ It is about two competing karate champions, whose rivalry is billed as a battle between sexes and races (?!) — but for all that, this is a quick and fun read and a great example of the BWAM romances we can expect from Ms. Ozmun.
Playaz is a work dedicated to thriller e-book writer J.A. Konrath because its whole plot structure was provided by an example in his free Newbie’s Guide to Publishing. This story concerns an avid African-American videogamer who’s female, whose “offline world is coming apart just as her online efforts are finally coming together!” It’s a brisk read and very interesting for us writers to see what one person can do with another person’s ideas.
She’s at work on more — much (too much?) more — and will not be offering any for sale until her website’s complete. It will be very interesting to see how that turns out, as she’s described something quite ambitious to us, full of forums, a newsletter, and even her own affiliate program for promoting her books! Chapter 146 is grateful for the access she’d provided for this quick look and wishes her well as we anticipate following her promising career.
